Public Statement
MISA-TANZANIA to celebrate Right to Know Day by naming Most Open &
Secretive Government Institutions 2015
September 27, 2015
The Media Institute of Southern Africa
celebrate the International Right to Know/Information Day by launching a report on Access
to Information in Public Institutions.
Recently, the organisation conducted a study to measure the most open and transparent
public institution in Tanzania. The research also measured the most secretive public
institution based on citizen’s access to information they hold.
The research sought to assess the level of public access to information held by government
and public institutions in the country.
The event will be held at MISA-TAN premises in Kinondoni Mkwajuni, Dar se Salaam.
The 2015 Golden Key & Padlock Awards will be given the Most Open & Transparent and
the Most Secretive Public Institutions in Tanzania.
The International Right to Know Day is celebrated every year on September 28th, and is
aimed at promoting citizen’s access to government and public held information, necessary
for participating in the governance process as well as accessing other social economic
rights.
